located in a residential area of chiba, japan, ‘hair do’ by ryo matsui architects is a two-storey hair salon, conveniently served by public transport, which offers extensive facilities for the local neigborhood and beyond. enclosed by a large gabled roof, supported by a lightweight steel frame, the design is characterized by its expansive glazed façade which frames the building’s internal activity and presents it to the passing street.

internally, a clear, functional and efficient use of space sees a comfortable reception area run throughout the ground level, with bordering styling areas occupying the perimeter of the volume, and shampoo and hair coloring zones found at the at the rear of the design. a staircase leads to the second storey, which as well as offering further salon facilities for use at busy periods, houses a staff room for the company’s employees.
